General Farmhand
Position Description
The work at Sunrise is primarily focused on certified-organic vegetable production, though the eight-person Sunrise crew is part of everything from seeding vegetables to slaughtering chickens to maple sugaring to light carpentry. Our 400-member CSA is entirely on-farm pickup, so you will have a chance to interact with CSA members whether you’re restocking the kale or selling lamb sausage. The job is 40 hours per week, 7:30 AM to 4 PM with a half hour off for lunch, Monday through Friday. Housing in an apartment adjacent to the farm may be available if needed. The work season generally runs from mid-April through Thanksgiving.
Qualifications
-We work in rain, sun, snow, wind, heat, and cold—preparedness and a positive attitude are essential for success. We also shift frequently from one task to another, so an ability to transition efficiently is important.
-We aim to work hard during work hours and then knock off at a reasonable time. You must be able to put in a solid eight hours of effort every weekday, lift heavy objects, and deal with whatever comes along. You also need to be able to work closely with other people, since most activities require joint effort.
-You don’t need to have prior farm experience, though that is helpful.
